By Paul Johnson

Omaha, Nebras ka (CNN) More than a thousand people rallied in support of an alleged hate crime victim in Nebraska. The 33-year-old woman showed up at a neighbor's home naked and bleeding, her hands bound by zip ties. The victim tells police masked men assaulted her on Sunday, carving gay slurs into her body. A written statement from the woman was read during Thursday's vigil. "I am overwhelmed in many ways. One of those ways is by the love and kindness, the care and the sadness that has been shared by so many people. What has sustained me through this difficult time are the expressions of love and care sent my way from my family, my friends, my community, and from people I've never even met." Charlie Rogers says she had tried to keep her identity secret after the incident, but her attorney told CNN Rogers decided to go public to make it clear that her story was not "a hoax."
