Tucson, Arizona (CNN) - A manhunt is under way in Arizona after one Border Patrol agent was killed and another wounded.
The attack happened Tuesday near Naco-- about 105 miles southeast of Tucson.
One official describes what led up to the shooting. Chief Deputy Rodney Rothrock with the Cochise County Arizona Sheriff’s office said, "Well, a lot of the details are still emerging. We don't have a clear picture at this time. The scene of this event was in a really rugged area, very hilly, rugged terrain. They've had the helicopter and the technicians and the equipment to process the scene. What we do know, at approximately 1:45 in the morning, while responding to the sensor activation in the area, which is a very active smuggling area, the three agents came under gunfire. Of course, Agent Nicholas Ivie lost his life, a second agent was wounded and, fortunately, the third agent escaped unharmed." Ivie is the 14-th agent killed in the line of duty since 2008.
He is the third to be killed on the job this year.
