Washington Authorities Find A Fetus Buried In A Shoebox At An Olympia Area Home
Lacey, Washington (CNN) - Authorities in suburban Olympia, Washington are investigating two teens after discovering a buried fetus. The box containing the remains of a premature baby 26-to-30 weeks old was found in the front yard of this home in Lacey. Police went to the yard to dig after a 16-year-old girl apparently told a school nurse she miscarried in June and gave birth to a stillborn baby. She allegedly also told the nurse she and her boyfriend buried the child in a shoebox. Sheriff's Lieutenant Greg Elwin says there was one mistake after another in this case. Any hope whatsoever of identifying whether or not the child was alive at birth or deceased at birth the only hope is to have that done by a pathologist. Police say the the teenager and her boyfriend could face manslaughter charges if the baby was born alive. They could also face misdemeanor charges of improper burial, if the child died a natural death.
