Man Sentenced To 32-Years In Prison For Raping Girl At Her Homecoming Dance
Martinez, California (CNN) - Nearly three years after a teenage girl was gang raped outside a homecoming dance at a California high school...
The main suspect admitted his guilt and accepted a 32-year long prison sentence.
Police say 22-year-old Manuel Ortega, along with as many as nine other people, robbed, beat, and raped the victim for more than two hours.
As many as a dozen others stood by and watched the attack, some even taking photos.
The judge in the case had a lot to say to Ortega Friday at his sentencing. "This is what you did, sir, was, it's...I can't describe what you did. I think that you're finally beginning to understand that what you did was...it's indescribable what you did. I appreciate though, Mr. Ortega, how you've always been a gentleman in the courtroom and that you've been very courteous to my staff. It was very much appreciated, but it still does not mitigate what you did, sir. It's indescribable what you did." In the years since the incident, the West Contra Costa School District settled with the victim for four-million-dollars and put surveillance systems in all its middle and high schools.
