12-Yr-Old To Compete In World Accordion Championship
Spokane, Washington (CNN) - For many kids, spending time practicing a musical instrument is torturous. But a 12-year-old girl from Spokane, Washington spends seven hours a week practicing -- and it's definitely paying off. Naomi Harris will make music history this week, when she competes in the World Accordion Championship. It's one of the most prestigious accordion competitions there is.
And Naomi is the youngest musician to ever qualify. She'll compete against 45 musicians from 20 countries. But she's taking it all in stride. "I don't feel intimidated really. I just feel like I'm going to have a lot of fun." Naomi has been playing the accordion for four years. But before she picked up the instrument, she had to spend some time convincing her parents she was serious about it. It seems she tried to play the guitar when she was 7 years old -- and quit after three weeks, without practicing once. Comments ( |
