Lake Tahoe Area Ski Resorts Open Early Thanks To Snow Storm

By Paul Johnson

South Lake Tahoe, Nevada (CNN) - Skiers at Lake Tahoe area ski resorts will be able to hit the slopes earlier than usual...thanks to Mother Nature.
The Heavenly Mountain Resort and other area ski resorts are opening today (Wednesday)...two days ahead of schedule
Recent storms have dumped more than three feet of snow.
Officials hope the early opening is a sign of good things to come.
"It's a really big boost for the economy, here in South Lake Tahoe, to be able to open early and bring in tourists and have that winter atmosphere again."
"It's always important to be open for Thanksgiving. And this year, it's very important, after the season we had last year, and I think opening a few days early will even give a bigger boost to the business for the area."
For now, only certain trails are available.
The resort won't be fully functional until there are a few more snow storms.
Most other ski resorts open Thursday and Friday.
