California Lotto Officials Vote To Add Powerball Game To State

By Paul Johnson

Sacramento , California (CNN) - California is taking a gamble on Powerball. The state lottery commission voted today (Thursday) to bring the popular game to California. Excitement over the game hit a fever pitch this week when the jackpot reached nearly 600-million-dollars.
Californians could not buy into the Powerball fever because it's one of eight states that currently does not off the game. The commission believes joining Powerball could pump an additional 90-to-120-million into the state's economy, even with the expected drop-off in ticket sales for the state's other lotto games. Tickets will go on sale starting in April.
