18th Year Of Amber Alert System
Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) This month marks the 18th anniversary of the Amber Alert system.
Here in Idaho, the program consists of a voluntary cooperation including broadcasters, cable providers as well as local and state agencies.
Amber Alert was started by law enforcement and the media in Texas back in 1996, after the kidnapping and murder of 9–year old Amber Hagerman.
In order for the Amber Alert to be activated, the child must be known to law enforcement to have been abducted, the abduction occurred within 12 hours of the initial activation of Amber Alert, the child must be 17 or under or have a mental or physical disability, police must believe the child is in imminent danger and there must be enough descriptive information and the child must be entered into the NCIC.
