Sacramento Mayor Says The City Hopes To Have An Offer On The NBA Kings Deal Soon

By Paul Johnson

Sacramento, California (CNN) - The mayor of Sacramento, California says he hopes to have an offer ready soon to try and keep the city's N-B-A team.
The owners of the team are reportedly finalizing a deal to sell the Sacramento Kings to Seattle.
Sacramento officials are working on a counter offer. "It's a complicated transaction, you know, the deal first broke in Seattle on January 9th.
This is four weeks, you know, that's not a whole lot of time. We're less than four weeks so for a team to be in the ball game now at the degree that they are and were not in the ballgame four weeks ago is amazing. I'm telling you, everybody is committed to working around the clock. I mean, our city managers here, our assistant city manager, our treasurer. You have a commitment by the city that we want to be smart and we want to do our due diligence." Johnson won't yet reveal who the investors are.
He says he hopes to have the counter offer in place before a March 1st deadline for teams to apply for relocation.
