Crews In Utah Rescue A Man Hurt In An Avalanche

By Paul Johnson

Salt Lake City, Utah (CNN) - Crews in Utah rescued a man hurt in an avalanche Sunday.
The man was with a group skiing at Big Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City when the avalanche was triggered.
The man was trapped up to his neck.
Officials say his friends were able to dig him out... but his leg was broken.
It took rescue crews hours to reach the victim because conditions were so bad.
We tried to get the assistance of a helicopter to assist in getting the injured off... skier off the mountain. But due to the conditions in the valley, that proved problematic but the pilot with BPS kept up and was persistent in his effort to get through the cloud cover in the valley. He was able to do that.
The 41-year-old was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok.
