El Paso, Colorado (CNN) - The head of Colorado's Department of Corrections was found shot and killed in his home Tuesday night.
Authorities are searching for a suspect.
Police found the body of 58-year-old Tom Clements in his Monument, Colorado home - about 20 miles from Colorado Springs.
A relative told a 9-1-1 operator he was shot as he opened his door.
Right now, authorities do not have a suspect description and are searching the area.
Witnesses reported seeing a boxy-shaped black car, possibly a 1990s model Lincoln, in the area.
Clements was appointed Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Corrections in 20-11.
He had previously served in the Missouri Department of Corrections for over three decades.
Clements is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper ordered flags in the state lowered to half-staff until after Clements' funeral.
Arrangements are still being made.
