Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Idaho’s Health Insurance exchange is now heading to Governor C.L. Butch Otter for his signature, three months after he announced his support for a state-based exchange. The Idaho State Senate today voted 23 to 12 in favor of HB 248 which will create a state-based health insurance exchange. The bill passed by the Senate had previously passed the Idaho House on a 41-29 vote, and passed the Senate Commerce Committee by an 8-1 vote. Although the Idaho State Senate passed a previous state exchange bill 23-12, today’s successful legislation combines that bill with new language that increased oversight from the Idaho Legislature.
A working group formed by Governor Otter to research the issue voted 10-2 in October to support a state-based exchange, after studying the issue extensively.
