Mormon Group Advocates Female Priests
Salt Lake City, Utah (CNN) - A group of members from the Mormon church wants to see women hold the priesthood.
They've started a website called ordain women-dot-org to push females to pursue leadership roles within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Women in other religious denominations are ordained and hold the priesthood.
A female reverend from a Presbyterian church in Salt Lake City says she understands the desire to hold the title.
It's not just a title, it's a living, it's a being. Look at any social movement and you'll see there is often tons of resistance to a small group of people who are saying please open your eyes. Open your heart to see the spirit. I'm thankful to the woman who took a stand because it has allowed me to live in my gifts with no problem. Completely affirmed. I don't have to fight for my place at the table anymore, they did it for me.
The L-D-S church released a statement saying women are viewed equally.
They say "ordaining men to the priesthood was established by Jesus Christ himself, and is not a decision to be made by those on Earth."
