Washington state labor dept. Investigating fatal escalator mishap

Seattle, Washington (CNN) - Washington state's labor department is investigating after a 42-year-old man died in an escalator mishap in downtown Seattle last weekend.
It happened in a transit station Sunday morning.
Police say surveillance video shows the man was staggering and leaning on the side of the escalator.
About three-fourths of the way down, he fell onto his back.
Authorities say when he got the base of the escalator; his shirt got caught in the escalator. It ended up strangling him to death.
Police say a half-empty bottle of brandy was found in his back pocket.
The police investigation is over.
But the state labor and industries department is looking into the incident.
The agency says the escalator had several safety code violations.
