California (CNN) - Officials have closed part of California's Joshua tree national park until the end of the month, due to rampant graffiti.
Park officials believe social media is fueling the vandalism.
People are posting pictures of their work to sites and the trend is taking off.
Vandals who are caught face a five-thousand-dollar fine and up to six months behind bars.
More than 300 acres of rattlesnake canyon are being closed.
The park covers a total of 800-thousand acres.
