San Francisco, California (CNN) - 20 thousand runners hit the pavement Sunday for the San Francisco marathon.
This year's race included enhanced security in response to the bombings at the Boston marathon in April.
Extra police officers patrolled, and bags were searched at the start and finish line.
Large bags were banned from the race course.
The new security didn't seem to slow down the runners:
The men's winner crossed the finish line in just two hours and 25 minutes.
The women's winner finished less than 20 minutes later, unofficially breaking the course record.
