Los Angeles, California (CNN) - A bizarre story from southern california...
Where police say a woman buried her husband in their own backyard.
It all started when she called 9-1-1 sounding upset.
When a deputy showed up for a welfare check she confessed that her husband died a few weeks ago and she couldn't afford a proper burial.
Investigators were called to the home and found the 63-year-old man in a shallow grave.
There was no trauma to his body.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
A neighbor says he didn't know... The woman hired him to help paint their home.
"From what she told me, he went back to his daughter in Orange County and staying with them while she gets the place ready for selling, and that was the end of that."
The home was going for an asking price of 115-thousand-dollars...
A prospective buyer, who spoke to the woman, says she told him her husband was sick... And she needed the money upfront in cash.
In the state of California it is a misdemeanor to bury someone in any other place than a cemetery, but the woman has not been arrested.
There is no word on whether she will be charged.
