Just In Time For The Summer Vacation Season Eight States Raise Their Gas Tax

By Paul Johnson

(CNN) - Sticker shock at the pumps in eight states starting this week.
It just got more expensive to drive in Connecticut... California... Maryland... Kentucky.... Nebraska... Georgia... And North Carolina.
The institute on taxation and economic policy says those states just raised their gas tax by 10-cents.
The increase went into effect Monday.
But drivers in Virginia and Vermont are getting a break.
The gas tax in those states decreased.
The federal gas tax has remained the same since 1993 at 18-cents a gallon
State and federal gas taxes are mainly used for road building and other transportation infrastructure projects.
