Pole Creek Road Closed For Bridge Installation Near Stanley
Stanley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - The Sawtooth National Recreation Area (NRA) will close a portion of the Pole Creek Road, 36 miles north of Ketchum, to replace an existing culvert with a road bridge. The closure will begin on Tuesday, September 24th and continue through Wednesday, October 2nd. The road is anticipated to be back open by Thursday, October 3rd. Please call the Sawtooth NRA for an update.
Access to lower Pole Creek, below the project site will still be allowed, but access to the upper Pole Creek drainage will require using Valley Road, nine miles north of the usual Pole Creek road turnoff.
The culvert, 2.2 miles up the Pole Creek Road, is a substantial barrier to fish passage. Replacement of the culvert with a bridge will allow easier passage for all life stages of fish and significantly improve the quality of fish habitat in the Pole Creek drainage. Pole Creek is a major tributary of the upper Salmon River drainage and is considered a “priority watershed,” due to its ecological potential. The Sawtooth NRA has implemented numerous projects in the drainage to improve recreation opportunities and fish and wildlife habitat.
