BOISE, ID ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) – The Bureau of Land Management’s Boise District is planning to conduct a controlled burn of about 225 acres of fence lines along a nine mile stretch of Simco Road located within Elmore County, about 15 miles southwest of Mountain Home, Idaho. The project, which begins today, will be focused on reducing tumbleweed buildup along the roadway, which is creating hazardous conditions for motorists traveling along Simco Road.
During burn operations, motorists and residents may see smoke in the area and may encounter heavy equipment on the roadway. The Elmore County Highway Department and BLM fire resources will conduct traffic control, as small sections of Simco road may be shut down for short periods of time due to heavy smoke and visibility concerns. The BLM and Elmore County Sheriff will work to ensure that motorists experience only short delays along Simco Road during burn operations.

Controlled burn times may vary, as the BLM must assess weather conditions, such as temperature, wind, and relative humidity, in order to conduct safe and thorough burn operations. Controlled burn operation target dates will range from December 16 through January 30, depending on weather conditions. For more information, please call the Boise BLM fire information line: (208) 384-3378.
