Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) – Boise resident Charles O. Szczerba was sentenced today for insurance fraud, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. Fourth District Judge Ron Wilper sentenced Szczerba to 30 days in jail, four years probation, ordered him to pay court costs and he must perform 100 hours of community service. The court gave him a withheld judgment.

Szczerba, 22, pleaded guilty October 22, 2013, to one count of insurance fraud. By pleading guilty, Szczerba admitted that he knowingly filed a false claim with GEICO Insurance Company for damages to his vehicle that allegedly occurred on July 21, 2012, while Alexis M. Mecham was driving the car. GEICO Insurance later discovered Mecham had actually been involved in an accident and cited for DUI on July 4, 2012, in Valley County. However, the coverage on the vehicle had been cancelled on June 9, 2012, for non-payment. On July 9, 2012, Szczerba had his policy reinstated and added collision coverage to the policy.
Mecham was sentenced for insurance fraud on October 29, 2013.
