Former Rexburg Resident Sentenced For Insurance Fraud
Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV/KTWT-TV) – Kristopher Corey Butcher, a former resident of Rexburg, was sentenced today for insurance fraud, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. Seventh District Judge Gregory Moeller sentenced Butcher to eight years in prison. The court suspended the prison sentence, ordered Butcher to serve 60 days in the Madison County Jail and placed him on probation for five years. Butcher must also pay a $1,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service.
Butcher, 28, living in Denton, Texas, pleaded guilty on October 21, 2013. By pleading guilty, Butcher admitted hiding some of his property and lying to the insurance company.
Butcher contacted the Rexburg Police Department and reported that his Rexburg apartment had been burglarized on April 3, 2011. During the police investigation, Butcher said his guns, binoculars, a hunting scope, tools and his wife’s wedding ring were stolen during the burglary. Butcher then submitted an insurance claim for these items to American Family Insurance.
On April 29, 2011, the Rexburg Police Department was dispatched to Butcher’s apartment to investigate that he had imprisoned his wife and infant child. Rexburg Police entered the apartment and took Butcher into custody. A search of the apartment produced a rifle and a shotgun in the closet of his child’s bedroom.
