Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) – Scott L. Costello, 32, was sentenced today for insurance fraud, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. Third District Judge Molly Huskey sentenced Costello to a withheld judgment of seven days in county jail, ordered him to pay $90 in restitution, pay a $300 fine, 180 days discretionary jail, and placed him on probation for three years. The court credited Costello for time served and ordered him to get a General Education Diploma within a year.

Costello, of Nampa, pleaded guilty on September 30, 2013, to one count of insurance fraud. By pleading guilty, Costello admitted to obtaining insurance coverage on his vehicle after it had been involved in an accident.

Costello contacted Sagamore Insurance Company on August 1, 2011, and placed insurance on his 2002 Subaru Imprezza. The following day, he contacted the insurance company to notify them that his vehicle had been involved in an accident and filed a claim for damages. Upon further investigation, Sagamore discovered Costello had told law enforcement officers, at the scene of the accident on August 1, that he had insurance coverage on his vehicle. Within minutes of telling the officers he had insurance on his vehicle, he contacted Sagamore to obtain a policy.
