Mom Asks Lawmakers For Inattentive Driving Bill
BOISE, Idaho (KIFI-TV) - A grieving Idaho Falls mom is still hoping for justice more than a decade after her 11-year-old daughter was killed when a driver with uncontrolled diabetes crossed the center line and slammed into the car in which she was a passenger.
So Pat Tucker is at the Idaho Legislature, asking lawmakers to punish drivers like the one who killed her daughter, Cady, should they slide behind the wheel without properly treating conditions like diabetes and epilepsy.
In Tucker's daughter's case, the driver was never even ticketed, she said.
That would change under her proposal, sponsored by Idaho Falls Republican Rep. Janet Trujillo.
It found footing in the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, over some misgivings it could be too tough on some drivers.
It's now up for a full House debate.
