Thousands Of Dead Fish In Marina Del Rey

By Paul Johnson

Marina Del Rey, California (CNN) - Thousands of dead fish wash ashore in California.
From a distance, it's hard to tell what covered the rocks in marina Del Rey.
Anchovies, halibut, stingrays, sunfish, and even octopus were among the thousands of dead marine animals.
Residents say the stench from the dead fish was overpowering.
This isn't the first time something like this has happened.
Marine biologists say massive fish kills like this one happen occasionally, as rising temperatures create something called an "oxygen dead zone," where the warmer water can't hold as much oxygen.
Crews from the California department of fish and wildlife were called in to clean up the mess.
