Idaho Falls Businessman Wants To Be State Republican Chairman

Idaho Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Whenever the State’s Central Committee meets, Idaho Falls businessman Steve Yates wants to be considered for the group’s chairman. In a news release Yates said, “After receiving several calls urging me to be a candidate for this position, I have decided to do so now.” Yates has spent 24 years working public policy issues at the Federal level.

At this time it’s not known when the committee will meet. Embattled Chairman Barry Peterson filed a lawsuit last week against two other GOP members. He’s suing over the alleged scheduling of an illegal meeting of the States Central Committee for August 2.

Peterson feels he is still in control, but several lawyers including some from the Republican national Committee say otherwise. Peterson says the lawsuit was necessary because governor Otter hasn’t resolved the issue.

On Friday, court records show that a motion was filed to dismiss the case.

Tuesday of this week, a hearing was scheduled for July 29. Wednesday, a motion was made to shorten the time.
