37th Anniversary Of Teton Dam Flood
Sugar City, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Wednesday marks the 37th anniversary of the Teton Dam Flood.
A break in the Teton Dam sent 80 billion gallons of rushing water through the Upper Valley in eastern Idaho.
The event marked one of the largest disasters in the area. 11 people died as a result and the flood caused $500 million in damage.
Thousands were homeless in eight cities including Blackfoot and Rexburg.
Community members overcame this mammoth obstacle and worked together to rebuild their cities. The anniversary of the Teton Dam lives on with the Teton Dam Marathon & Races held every year.
