LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) _ A La Grande man has drowned in the Snake
River trying to rescue a child who had been fishing and fell in.

The La Grand Observer reported Monday that 24-year-old Trevor
Jordan Tally was among the campers last week who went into the
river at Hells Canyon Park, about 10 miles downriver from the
border town of Oxbow, to save the child.

Other rescuers and the 6-year-old child got out, authorities
say, but Tally disappeared in the 64-degree water with a strong
current. A man dove six times for Tally him but couldn't find him.

Divers later retrieved his body.
