CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ The National Park Service has approved a
plan to restrict snowmobile numbers in Yellowstone National Park to
less than half of last winter's limit.

Yellowstone announced Thursday that it will allow up to 318
snowmobiles and up to 78 snowcoaches per day in the park for the
next two winter seasons.

The plan allows for motorized travel over Sylvan Pass and the
East Entrance road.

The park allowed 720 daily snow machine trips last winter.

The state of Wyoming opposes curtailing park snowmobile use
because of the potential economic impact on surrounding
communities.

The state has gone to court in hopes of blocking the reduction.
