NEW YORK (AP) _ More than a dozen of the Navajo Code Talkers
have arrived in New York City to take part for the first time in
the nation's largest Veterans Day Parade.
They devised an unbreakable code from their ancient language
that stymied the Japanese during World War II.
Only about 50 of the 400 Code Talkers, all Marines, are believed
to be still alive. Many are in their 80s and feel their time to
tell the world about their wartime contribution is running out.
They will attend the parade's opening ceremony Wednesday and
ride a float along Fifth Avenue.
On Tuesday, they attended a ceremony commemorating the birthday
of the Marine Corps. They also planned to visit ground zero.
