RENO, Nev. (AP) _ A storm has dropped up to 10 inches of snow
around Lake Tahoe and whetted the appetites of skiers and
snowboarders.

The Boreal resort atop Donner Summit says it would be able to
open its lifts to the top of the mountain beginning this weekend
after receiving 8 to 10 inches of snow.

Boreal is the only resort currently open around Tahoe.

The Alpine Meadows resort north of Tahoe says cold temperatures
will allow it to step up snow-making operations. The resort reports
4 to 6 inches of new snow.

Locals will be pulling for more snow at the annual Pray for Snow
Party tonight at the Sierra-at-Tahoe resort near Tahoe's south
shore.

The storm prompted chain controls over mountain passes this
morning, but all highways are now open without controls.
