LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Authorities say a woman was fatally stabbed
soon after two police officers took a domestic violence report and
left her apartment.

Police spokesman Officer Bruce Borihanh said Thursday the
officers had responded to the domestic violence call in the
Mid-City area late Wednesday and were in their patrol car
completing their report when they heard screams.

The officers said they ran back into the apartment and saw a man
stabbing the woman then shot him to death.

Police say there had been no sign of the attacker when the
officers were in the apartment the first time.

Detective Gus Villanueva says the man may have reached the
second-floor apartment from the roof then climbed in a bathroom
window.
