JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) _ The company developing the Kensington mine
near Juneau says a new vein of gold has been discovered.

Donald Birak with Coeur d'Alene Mines says drill tests conducted
at the end of last year revealed the gold, which he says could
develop into a major system.

The tests represent a first phase of drilling, and more work
needs to be done before the company can say how much additional
gold the mine might produce.

The Kensington mine 45 miles northwest of Juneau is believed to
have 1.5 million ounces of gold reserves and an initial life of 12
and a half years.

Idaho-based Coeur d'Alene Mines is developing the mine.
