SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ The Utah Senate gave its initial approval
to a bill Thursday that would let owners of wolf-damaged livestock
in parts of Utah seek compensation.

Senators voted unanimously for House Bill 32, but it still needs
one more formal vote in the Senate to pass.

Animals meeting the definition of livestock are sheep, cattle,
goats and turkeys.

People can't get compensation in areas of the state where wolves
are protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Damage caused by mountain lions, bears and eagles already is
covered.

Rep. Melvin Brown, a Coalville Republican, is sponsoring the
bill.
