Utah Marine killed in Afghanistan

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ The U.S. Defense Department says a Marine
from Utah has been killed in Afghanistan while supporting Operation
Enduring Freedom.

The department says 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Carlos A. Aragon, of
Orem, died Monday from injuries sustained during combat action in
Helmand province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion,
4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, based out of Camp
Pendleton, Calif.

Aragon was a light armored vehicle technician. He was born in
Chihuahua, Mexico. He joined the Marine Corps in November 2008 and
his awards included the National Defense Service Medal.

Marine Forces Reserve media officer Capt. Kate Vanden Bossche
said Tuesday no other details about the circumstances of Aragon's
death would be released. She also declined to provide the names of
any family members, citing policy.
