SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ The Utah Senate has passed a bill to honor
Utah gun inventor John M. Browning with a commemorative day on Jan.
24, 2011.
The Senate unanimously passed a substitute version of Senate
Bill 272, sponsored by Sen. Mark Madsen, on Monday.
The bill sponsored by Madsen, an Eagle Mountain Republican,
honors Browning on the 100th anniversary of his semiautomatic 1911
pistol. Madsen says the model saved many American lives in World
War I and contributed to the turning of the tide in the conflict.
