Utah refinery hit with $1M in fines for explosion

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Utah regulators have fined an oil refinery
more than $1 million for an explosion in November.

Silver Eagle Refining Inc. says it will contest the 51
violations, all rated serious or willful.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the citations from the
Utah Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The documents show that Silver Eagle was cited for equipment
problems, safety lapses and incomplete records in inspections that
followed the explosion.

The Wood Cross refinery was the scene of a 100-foot fireball
that knocked four workers to the ground and a nearby house off its

Nobody was killed or injured, but regulators say each violation
discovered after the explosion was potentially deadly.
