Amanda Knox Appeal Re-Trail Begins Monday
Seattle, Washington (CNN) Amanda Knox will not be in court Monday, as her international murder trial restarts in Florence, Italy.
Knox returned to her hometown of Seattle after spending four years behind bars in Italy.
She and her ex-boyfriend were convicted of killing her roommate, British exchange student Meredith Kercher.
Two years ago, those convictions were overturned for "lack of evidence."
Some Italian officials cried foul, saying Knox should not have been allowed to leave prison and return to the United States.
Last year, Italy's Supreme Court said the jury that acquitted Knox didn't consider all of the evidence, ordering the retrial that starts Monday.
Knox's former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, has also refused to return to Italy.
He told CNN he plans to stay in the Dominican Republic with a friend.
