Los Angeles, California (CNN) A blind man survived after accidentally walking off a subway platform and into the path of an oncoming train in Los Angeles.

An eyewitness took this video after the train came to a stop Thursday.

Authorities say the train operator saw the man at the edge of the platform, honked a warning... But it was too late.

The unidentified 47-year-old man, who had a cane, fell onto the tracks - and the train rolled right over him.

A witness describes what happened next.

"The lights went off on the train and he said, 'Everyone remain seated. We're going to manually open the doors for you.’ Someone went crazy, opened all the doors and ran out. I saw everyone running out of the train. It turns out somebody was crushed underneath the train," Christopher Vitiello explains.

Fortunately, the man landed in a bed between the tracks and did not get hit.

The man was injured by the fall but not seriously hurt.
