Boise Soccer Players Help With Fire Restoration Efforts
Boise, Idaho (KBOI) After a rough fire season, restoration efforts begin.
In the Boise foothills, kids from the FC Boise Soccer Club put on their cleats and went to work planting new grass. They used their shoes to help aerate the ground while other players came along and planted the seeds. Organizers hope it will help native plants thrive again in the area. Julia Grant, City of Boise adds, "we want to help those native plant communities and so that's what we are using is a native seed mix and that are a lot of the species that are still found in military reserve but we are trying to pump up thier population " Many times after a fire native grasses are overtaken by invasive plant species like cheat grass, which burns easier in dry conditions and adds to future fire dangers.
