Tonopah, Arizona (CNN) Greyhound Bus passengers and Arizona authorities have nothing but praise for a hero bus driver.

The driver was attacked by a passenger early Thursday morning as the bus was traveling 70-miles-an-hour down a freeway near Tonopah in central Arizona.

The driver managed to bring the bus to a stop in the median while being attacked by the suspect.

These passengers describe the harrowing situation on the Greyhound.

“I woke up to this commotion, and I remember hearing screaming and when I realized it was real, I realized we were not on the road anymore. I thought we were all going to die,” recalls Chrissy Sanchez.

“My being a commercial driver, a truck driver, I knew that once he hit that median, there was no way we were going to come out of this, but he held it to a tee, even with the guy hitting him and he held it real good,” adds Gregory Fort.

But more than a dozen passengers were hurt .... With injuries ranging from a back injury to fractured bones.

Meantime police have the 25-year-old suspect in custody.

He could face 48 counts of felony endangerment and assault charges.
