WASHINGTON, D.C. Late last week, the Pentagon outlined its plan to cut nearly $500 billion in defense spending over the next ten years.

One of the key points in the proposal is reducing ground forces by approximately one hundred thousand.

Army Chief of Staff General Raymond Odierno told reporters on Friday that cuts to the pentagon budget will mean a smaller Army of 490,000.

The Army will also have a smaller presence in Europe.

We spoke with Congressman Mike Simpson on the phone as he shares his thoughts on military spending.

U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson, (R) Idaho says, "I am one who believes there are savings to be made in the military budget and we need to go through it and we need to look at how we plan on refocusing the military and if that's the direction congress thinks is the right way to go."

Odierno says two heavy brigades in Germany will be eliminated in 2013 and 2014.
