Sierra County, New Mexico (CNN) The name of New Mexico’s Elephant Butte State Park is taking on a special meaning after the skull of a prehistoric elephant was found there.

A group of guys celebrating a bachelor party stumbled upon the stegomastodon fossil last weekend.

A crew with New Mexico state parks and other volunteers are now excavating it.

Paleontologists say the skull is from an enormous prehistoric elephant that weighed as much as 13 thousand pounds and stood nine feet tall.
