Dairy Producer Legislation Introduced
Washington DC ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Senator Mike Crapo has introduced new bipartisan legislation to encourage dairy producers to invest in risk reducing farm savings account.
The dairy act would give dairy producers a new tool to manage increasing demand while providing a safety net for volatile market downturns.
The proposal would allow operators to make deposits in the accounts during high-income periods and hold it until leaner times when additional revenues are needed.
The bill would also benefit consumers by helping to reduce the fluctuations in milk prices.
The bill was co-sponsored by Democratic Senator Charles Schumer from New York.
Idaho and New York are the third and fourth top dairy producing states in the nation.
