Duffle Bag Bandit Sentenced To Prison

Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Idaho’s U.S. Chief District Judge B. Lynn Winmill sentenced a Shreveport Louisiana resident to spend 5 years in prison for a bank robbery that happened in Boise last year. Gerald Edward Massey admitted that on March 6, 2013 he walked into the U.S. Bank 10700 Ustick Road in Boise, telling the bank manager that he was robbing the bank. According to U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson, Massey robbed a Chase Bank on December 21, 2012; a Washington Trust Bank on January 4, 2013; and a Wells Fargo Bank on January 22, 2013. Massey never possessed or represented that he had a firearm or any other weapon during any of the bank robberies.
The case was investigated by the Boise Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Massey pleaded guilty on January 7, 2014. In addition to the prison sentence he was sentenced to serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison.
