Elko Police Chief teaches teens a lesson
ELKO, Nevada (CBS Newspath) A group of teens headed for Utah on a ski trip were busted for marijuana in northern Nevada, but, they didn't see jail time.
Instead Elko Police Chief Don Zumwalt said he offered a choice to the mostly teenage passengers from the bay area: They could spend their three–day trip in juvenile detention, or they could turn over the drugs voluntarily. The kids gave up the pot. Zumwalt said he used the discovery of marijuana as a teaching moment instead of a law enforcement headache. The five buses carried a total of 250 underage skiers.
