Fifty Thousand Dollars Spent On Flight To Rescue Hens

By KMVT News

Vacaville, California (CNN) - Three thousand rescued hens in California are getting a free, 50 thousand dollar chartered flight to safety... all thanks to an anonymous donor.

The birds were temporarily taken in by animal place sanctuaries after being used up by an egg producer and slated for euthanasia. They say these hens are too old to continue laying eggs, and because no slaughterhouse would take them, they were to be gassed and dumped in a landfill.

Thanks to the donor, the animals will be sent to nine sanctuaries between Michigan and Maryland. From there, the rescued chicks will be put up for adoption.
