Flooding Streets, Homes In Spokane, WA
Spokane, Washington (KREM) Much of the country has experienced a drought lately, but that's not the case for Spokane, Washington.
This was not how any of those neighbors wanted to spend their Sunday. They've spent much of the day trying to clean up and prevent the situation from getting worse but likely won't get the help and answers they need until at least tomorrow. Just after seven this morning... Tammy Hogsed went to check out what was happening in her backyard after neighbors told her they saw water coming down the hill. Hogsed says, "created a river of water this way." That river came to a window on the back side of the house. It broke the glass and filled her basement with water. She adds, "we had to turn all the power off." It's created thousands of dollars in damage and destroyed many family treasures. Next door... Her neighbor saw a similar problem this morning. Kevin Hintz adds, "as I looked out the window it was as if the Lousiana levy let loose and out comes this big burst of water behind my fence." They say an engineering problem on land outside their development is to blame. They believe the culvert that runs behind their homes started today's flooding. For some of the homeowners hit worst by this... Insurance is not expected to cover the costs. Forcing them to put clean up crews on hold for now. Hogsed adds, "somebody needs to help us figure out how to get these guys paid so I can protect my home and my children." But even after they find a solution... The impact of today's flooding will have a washed away part of this home they will never retrieve. "There's no price on wedding pictures and baby pictures, that's where i'm strugging with." And those are just two of several homes flooded in that neighborhood today. Residents hope to make more progress on how to pay for the clean up tomorrow. Comments ( |
