Food Stamp Bill Hits Roadblock

Boise, Idaho ( KBOI ) Legislation that would spread food stamp distribution across 10 days each month has hit a roadblock.

The legislation has been pulled from the senate and is headed back to committee for reconsideration.

Republican Senator Lee Heider asked fellow senators to return the bill late last week, just days in fact after the Senate Health and Welfare Committee approved it on a six to three vote.

"A lot of businesses feel a lot of stress, I know because I worked at a business that accepts food stamps, they go under a lot stress the first day of the month trying to keep up with whether it's going to be busy or not that day," says Taylor Thornton, a Boise resident.

The legislation has the support of big grocers, saying giving out food stamps to everyone on the first of the month causes chaos for everyone.
