Happy Birthday To America's Oldest National Park

By KMVT News

Yellowstone National Park (CNN) America’s oldest national park celebrates its birthday this weekend.

Congress established Yellowstone National Park on March 1st, 1872 in Montana and Wyoming.

The park contains the world's largest collection of geysers, including Old Faithful.

With its near intact natural ecosystem, Yellowstone is home to grizzly bears, wolves, and herds of bison and elk.

It's one of the last such ecosystems in the earth's temperate zone.

Just as important as the wildlife protected within its borders, Yellowstone started the idea of a national park system... both in the U.S. and around the world.

Today there are some twelve-hundred national parks in more than 100 countries.
